I hope that your school year has started well! Here are a few events/announcements that may interest you!

Sunday, September 12th
Hebron Baptist will be hosting their annual picnic at the Airport Park (off of Youell Road from Limaburg) from 2-6 PM. Come join us for fun, games, and a devotional led by Pastor Shawn. HBC will provide drinks, napkins, plates, and plastic-ware. Just bring food for your family, and some to share if you want!

Friday, September 17th
This is the day of Connor High’s homecoming parade and game. We will be meeting at church at 4:30 PM to take part in the festivities. We will have a float in the parade for children to ride in, where they can throw candy to everyone watching the parade. We will also be serving hot dogs and water in front of the church, for free! If you would like to participate, just be here at 4:30!!!

Saturday, September 18th
We will be hosting a Family Movie Night at 7 PM. This will be outdoors, weather permitting. We can also show the movie inside if need be. So bring a lawn chair, blanket, and a craving for some good popcorn! This event is free as well!

Sunday, September 19th
HBC will launch a third service on Sunday mornings. The new service is called PROCLAIM. It begins at 9:35 AM in the sanctuary. PROCLAIM will be a contemporary worship service, and features a new format as compared to our other services. Come and check it out! We will also have Children’s Church during this time, if you so desire your children to have solid teaching on their level.

Also on this day, we will be changing the format of what we offer on Sunday nights. In place of a worship service, we will now be offering Bible studies that will help you grow in many ways. We will be offering classes from now through December for those who want to learn more about Christianity, Evangelism, or those who desire Men or Women only studies.

Saturday, October 30th
This is the day of our annual Fall Festival. If you have never been, be sure to mark this on your calendar and get the costumes out for your kids! We always have a fun time, with many activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Teen in Need

A teenage girl, age 14, is need. An email came across our prayer chain at Hebron Baptist last week. As a result, we will be collecting money and/or donations of clothing for her. She was taken in by a family in Burlington with only the clothes on her back. This is a great opportunity to reach out and let her know that we care about her, and even more importantly, God loves her.

Her needs are as follows:

Pants size 3 or 1
Shirts are XS
Shoe size 7
Underwear and socks Small
School items for a high school freshman
Gift cards for clothes, or money donations

We will be collecting this coming Sunday to give to the family and the girl.

Pray for her and the family that has taken her in, as well as ways that you can give and let her know that Jesus loves her!

Reminder that Paintball is Coming Tomorrow!

On Friday, August 13th, we will be going to Diehard Paintball in Silver Grove, KY. The cost is $20, and that includes rental equipment, 500 paintballs, and dinner. We will meet at Hebron Baptist at 1 PM, and leave by 1:30 PM. We will play paintball from 2 PM to 7 PM, with dinner in between. We will arrive back home at HBC by 7:30 PM.

We will be supervised by the experienced staff at Diehard. They will referee and organize our group to make sure we are participating in a safe environment. If you have your own equipment, bring it and the cost for you will be less.

In addition, you will need to sign a waiver for Diehard Paintball, which has to be signed by a parent/guardian if you are under 18. Forms will be available Wednesday and Sunday at church.

If you are a parent reading this, please pray about coming with us, at the very least to help with transportation and dinner! If parents come and want to play, the cost is free!

High School Girls' Slumber Party--TONIGHT!

This past week in our youth Sunday School class, we began to biblically examine the topic of leadership. Scott Walton is teaching the series, which is always a fun time as creativity meets biblical truth. In order to better connect with the students, Scott usually starts out with a game, activity, or something else that draws in the attention of the students, and prepares their hearts for God's word at the same time.

This week, Scott divided the class into groups, and gave them a bag with some random items in it. He then asked each group to come up with either a scene, an object, or anything else creative they could do with what they were given. The adults in the room were the judges....and the winner was this one!

The point of the exercise was to see who would become a leader in the group. We then had a good discussion on how leaders emerge, how they are chosen, and what the Bible says about the topic. Great job, Scott, and good work on the hot air balloon, Taylor's group!

Youth Service - Post Camp

Sunday, July 25th at 6 PM, we will be having our youth service. If you attended camp, you need to be there! If you didn't attend camp, you need to be there! We will have a time of testimony, as well as a time to see how God is still continuing to impact lives as a result of our time together. See you there!

Illinois Baptist Youth Choir

Hello Everyone!

We are hosting the Illinois Baptist Youth Choir this Friday. They will be performing for us at 7:00 PM, and admission is free! We will be hosting them overnight, as this is the first stop in their tour. We still need many people to host the students overnight. All you have to do is pick them up around 10:00 PM from the church, give them a place to sleep and shower, then have them back at the church at 7:30 AM Saturday morning.

Please pray and consider housing two or more of these students or adults. Contact Chris (call or text) at 859.391.9103 as soon as possible if you can provide housing for anyone. You can also call the church office at 859.689.7282.

Parents,

An amazing thing has happened at our church. God has blessed, and we have had many people give sacrificially to make the burden of cost easier for families. The total final payment is now down to $150 per student, instead of the original $211. Many, many thanks to the people of HBC who have invested in the spiritual development of our students!

VBS Volunteers - A Special Message For You!

ALL ADULT VBS VOLUNTEERS:

You are invited to join us for VBS Volunteer Devotions. Kimmie Hammond will lead us in VBS devotions on Wednesdays, June 2nd and 9th from 6:45 to 8:00. You can get a preview of the Bible stories that the kids will be hearing in VBS, learn more about our Penny War Mission, and pray for this ministry. This is not required for volunteers, but come and you will be blessed! If you have been meaning to sign up to volunteer, but haven’t yet, come Wednesday and we can sign you up.

Also, there will be a short meeting after the 11:00 service on June 13th for all VBS volunteers. Please come if you can.

Today in church we honored our graduates. Our college graduates were Tim Berberich and Holly Halliburton. Our high school graduates were Brent Walton, Lauren Ward, Jake Taylor, Scott Rowe, Leah Akin, Jared Mosqueda, and Brooke Grill. Please keep all of these brothers and sisters in your prayers. During this time of transition, it is needed!

Join me in congratulating them all on a huge milestone in life. Join me also in praying and loving them so that they know, regardless of where God leads them in life, Hebron Baptist is always a place they can call "Home."

Messy Games and Love In Action

This week brings with it two exciting opportunities for students: Messy Game Night and Love In Action!

Messy Game Night
This Wednesday night, we will have some fun and get messy! I can't release any of the messy details, but come prepared by wearing some old clothes! You might want to bring a beach towel to sit on for the ride home! We will also conclude our current series with a lesson about Dating and Courting. This is a relevant topic that will help you both now and in the future. Come join us at 6 for dinner, and 6:45 for worship!

Love In Action
On Saturday, we will be serving our community as a church. I am heading up a Backyard Bible Club, which will take place in Tree Tops in Hebron. We will meet at the church at 8 AM for breakfast, then go to my house for instructions. We will canvas the neighborhood, then spend time with the kids the come. We will have games, snacks, and a Bible lesson. This is a unique opportunity to get the message of Jesus into the lives of children. If you would like to help, please let me know! Long Time, No Post...

Hello All!

My apologies for not posting for so long! Much has been happening with our students, so here is a recap of the past few weeks...

We have continued on through our series "From the Front Porch to the Back Seat." Topics that have been covered include Marriage, Modesty, Pornography, Manhood, and Womanhood.
The lesson on Marriage was taught by Steve and Stephanie Richards, who did a terrific job connecting with the students through a relevant lesson.
During spring break, a group of students gave a day to serve at Matthew 25 Ministries!
The students had a fun day with the video scavenger hunt, building relationships with each other through achieving crazy activities - all on camera!

As school draws to a close, keep the students in your prayers. Final exams and year-end projects can be tough. For the past week, every time I have seen a student and asked how they are doing, all I get back in response is, "Tired!" Pray for their strength, endurance, and motivation to finish the school year well.

X-Fuge is coming (see dates below for important info). Kids Kamp is coming, too! If any teens would like to be a chaperon-in-training for Kids Kamp, I need to know by May 23.

On May 22, our church will be serving the community through Love in Action. The students have been asked to host a Backyard Bible Club in Hebron. Please sign up in the youth room if you are willing to help in the important ministry. We are in need of adults to help!

Front Porch to Back Seat Week #3

This past weekend we held some Bible studies to introduce True Love Waits (www.truelovewaits.com). Over 30 students signed a statement that they are committing their lives to sexual purity, which includes sexual abstinence until marriage. What a blessing! Remember these students as they face each day, that they will honor their covenant and seek to live a sexually pure life out of love and devotion to God.

Our series, From the Front Porch to the Back Seat, continues this week with the lesson "Single Ambition." This is a lesson that is focused on the person that is not called to the gift of singleness, but is still single, waiting on Mr. or Mrs. Right. We will be discussing four principles and looking at how to build character while waiting on the person God intends for you to marry.

The four principles are as follows:

Purity - live life like a Christian should.
Pray - show hope in God.
Patience - trust in God's plan and timing.
Purpose - have goals in life and honor God with them.

There are a number of things to do that can help build character, which will carry over into adulthood. Even as adults, married or not, these are some good tips to make sure that you are doing everything you can to honor God with every aspect of your life. Some ideas...

Do something you don't like.
Focus on a specific goal and achieve it.
Think about the "why's" in life.
Examine your speech.
Look at your motives behind actions.
Ask someone your respect what they think of you, and/or to list some of your weaknesses.

Another way to build character is to serve others. Our students will have the opportunity to give a day of their spring break to serve those in need through Matthew 25 Ministries. More details will follow soon, but circle April 13!!!

Front Porch to Back Seat, Week #2

If you are the parent of a teen, I am sure the topic of "I want a girlfriend" or "I want a boyfriend" has come up often! This week are looking at how both marriage and singleness are gifts, but also what differentiates the two from each other.

Our starting point this week begins in Genesis 2, with the creation of Eve. We will discern from here that God is in control over marriage, the timing of it, and our marriage partner. We will also discuss the fact that marriage is not the ultimate union a person can have. Rather, it our relationship and union with Christ, when we accept Him and become sealed by His blood, that is the ultimate union we can have. Everything else falls under this.

We will also be discussing the fact that Jesus was single. Being a mature man or woman in Christ is not defined by marriage, but by our relationship (read:union) with Christ. We all know plenty of immature married people, right? Lastly, we will be discussing how singleness is a gift from God, for the explicit purpose of serving God in total devotion. Check out 1 Corinthians 7:25-35. Try reading it aloud with your teen, and see what happens!

Our actions steps are to pray about how to handle life with or without a "significant other." The reality for Christians is that regardless, God is our focus! This begins by repenting for having the wrong attitude. We then pray to understand God's will for us regarding our future relationships. We then connect with the church, which is the bride of Christ.

My prayer, and the only reason I take time to write everything above, is for you to interact with your teen about this material. Even if only for a few minutes, your conversation can have a profound influence within the life of you child. I can still remember pretending not to listen or care about conversations like this with my parents. Guess what? I still remember them! And they have helped shape who I am as an adult, husband, and parent.
